My palsy is still with me. It is interesting to see how people react. Some see me; some look away. Some people are more sympathetic,

My daughter tells me it makes me look old. I respond that "I will just be old for a little while." Ha!

I picked up two more classes at school. Luckily they are actual lecture classes. Without meeting the students, how can you love them?

It would be nice to worship together across the wide socio-economic spectrum.

      Does god have an ego?

See that annoying person over there? God loves him too. Maybe you should do the same?

Thinking of God it's always: My bad; Your good.

Give me that old-time religious clichés.

Are there other ways to pull me to my lord without praising and pandering?

Praising God as a calling into his presence — a focusing and perhaps a delighting.

Part of every major religion is the experience of indescribable beauty and awe.

      Talking is thinking.

You can't pick your words on any basis. Out they come, adequate or possibly now.

How would you like to be treated?
Do you have a moral right to be treated a certain way?

American cities don't age gratefully. They rot. They are made from the cheapest materials.

Why do corporations not outsource the CEOs? (Because they are but a shill for the owners?)

If we did not have news, what would we have?

Many time reasons are given for things that are decided ion non-reasonable grounds.

The commandments against covetousness can be taken more profoundly as a warning against resentment.

Even if you knew everything about religion, and recognized the value of each, you would still have to participate and commit — like sex, like marriage.

I like the thinkers who realize we cannot understand the nature language. So when they will they stop talking about it?

There are two kinds of unconscious (id) "thoughts": smart-id and stup-id.

Texting is one more way to keep the world small — and preoccupied.

Of course you don't know what to say to your own kid. You don't know what to say to your own dog!

The problem of imaging the future is that our imagination is so limited. It only depicts one or two things at a time.

We can only understand the world in terms of metaphors, and we only have a few metaphors at a time.

In academics unlike theology, we can talk about places the Bible was mistaken.

You replace the facts with pictures of facts, and the pictures of facts may not be true.

Where is the balance between a life of fantasy and a life of realism?

Rap is opposite of blues. In the blues is I got nothing. In rap is I got bling, and women. In your face!

We need a revolution. We are probably decades away from it. We still think we cannot live without our financial overlords, or the thrum of business as usual.

Statistics cannot be seen, only gathered. They can also be gathered inappropriately, and misapplied.

Teachers not need to read the novel they are now teaching, any more than students. Why would they? Everything they need is on-line. (Teachers have not even taken the on-line test.

We look at high-performing schools (or people, or families), and we think: these results are reproducible. They almost never are. People are not molecules.

Sorry I have not posted recently. I have been busy with school staring back up, and marriage. I am living with Linda much more and loving it much more than a few fears permitted me to believe.

We play house: clean house / dirty house.

Linda found a sock in the laundry I recognized as mine. It too was united to its sole-mate.

Someday we will look back on this time when we were sitting here in our bed, pricing books and being completely happy — if we have time,

On Tuesday I got a case of Bells Palsy which is a temporary , or Paralysis, or as I now call it, Phharallishshishsh.

The doctor did some peripheral work and will let nature take its course. Nature, like the medical profession is slow, taking two weeks to six months. (that's now "Monphhhs")

Bells Palsy is not a disease where you get a lot of respect. Were it cancer, everyone would be respectful and muttering soft condolences. This one is just funny, like a big zit on my nose. The pharmacist laughed at me.

"I am not wearing any underwear," sounds different when said by men.

BTW I am not wearing any underwear — beneath my underwear.

There is no faith with doubt. There is no belief without doubt.

Is anyone else here also on a spiritual path of skepticism and doubts?

I want to be uncomfortable to learn what I need to deal with.

In our secular society, we secularize aspects of religion.

We like texting and driving. It is challenging, without that social opprobrium of drinking and driving.

Texting: shows us we can talk and do pretty much everything else

It is now 2012. Whenever I go out I see people checking their cell-phones. Constant and universal, cutting across the age-groups. What is going on? What are the consequences? These are questions that are never asked, or answered. In that texting is like television, cell-phones, the Internet, in our lifetime and movies and books generations ago: social features adopted by the public without any subsequent awareness of their impact on society.
What did people do before they checked their text messages?
How can this be? I am not sure we can even answer that question. Texting is permissible because it stands outside the purvey of traditional moral rules, it is encouraged by acceptable businesses that stand to benefit from this, it is hip and it serves a number of deep needs. I am not sure we can articulate needs.

Every Taliban terrorist killed in Pakistan with drones. Is it morally right to bomb a building to kill one person?

What is Christian morality? What is it to follow the ways of God?

The physiological basis of being moral is not rational.
Same as a correct moral decision, a cultural decision and a personal taboo.

A book that explains everything explains the things we can't explain and the things we do not know.

We are in some strange way not aware of our desires. They seem perfectly natural.

It is an important part of reading an actual book that you do not know completely what is happening and that YOU have to figure it out.

After a while, you think you might be good only because of the surveillance cameras. You forget people were good anyway. The same is true of a police presence. After a while we fear all unrestrained contact...

my mind is so fast. I calculate the effect of my actions on so many levels... and I want to be free from that.

Intolerance encourages hypocrisy. You do so not want to be yourself.

Can you increase your capacity for happiness? Or is that just being stuck in the wrong metaphor?

You cannot determine retention in an on-line class. Can provide an "answer" a question as in provide the correct answer without knowing what you have said. Like handing someone a book. Can "read" a book without actually reading a book. Answer the questions you would get from the book.
How test if you can understand a poem, a novel.

What you can't test in an on-line class is their comprehension. But traditionally comprehension is a core part of intelligence.

      I do not feel old.
      How is that possible?
      And now, married.
      How cool is that?

      I am here.
      It is so nice here.
      Where am I?

The mirror, numbers and common senses all lie.

I am happy. Marriage is symbolic even to me.

I like you best as a stranger.

Life is too short to explain where Locke went wrong.

      Reality un-nerves me.

I expect prayer worship to take off like a guitar solo.

Each religion has some metaphors not welcome: God the Mother,

How do we de-status human relationships? That would be a spiritual move.

The trouble with God as King, or as King of Kings is that we don't have kings anymore, and a king is not an admired political structure in our world. On the contrary it is antiquated political ruling structure. So what about using an honorific like "King of Queens" or "President of Presidents"? Also we choose presidents. So should we choose our gods? This is not the traditional way of thinking about it — but of course we do

Is there a proper way to adore God?
      Why even adore God?
      Should we adore the president?

What is difference between adore, worship and love?

How do I sit and let no one annoy me? Sit and not judge?

I am willing to listen to things I do not understand.

I am more irrational than I am sometimes comfortable with. Not just in my sexual thought, but I am more normal, timid, religious that I think hip.

I am not into proselytizing unless the person has successfully taken care of themselves first. And how do I know a person has taken care of their self? For one thing, he or she would not be proselytizing.

The ubiquity of texting also tells us that there is something about that world that does not fully engage us.

The one thing everyone knows about haiku... is wrong.

Understanding art is NOT knowing what you need to pass an art appreciation class.

In our day, we could have blown up the airplanes, but we did not. We could have been killed in the woods without a cellphone. We were not. I miss the reality of that reality. We rode bikes all over town without any motorcycle helmets.

We live in a world where cheerleading by adults can seem perfectly normal.

We do not have words enough, or time. Oh the things we can listen to.

Humans too are an animal that freezes in the face of motion.
But here our brain does not freeze.

It was a wonderful ceremony and wonderful reception at the Clark House afterwards.

It seems it will be difficult,
      but not impossible,
to live up to the beautiful words we gave each other, and shared with our friends.
Nut we have made the difficult easy.

How amazing it is to lie next to a woman who really really loves me.

The wedding day approaches far too fast. I want to enjoy the amazingness. Every day I could go to the restaurant and work on my marriage vows. I could write her vows forever. I can promise you the world, because I can give it to her.

What if believing in God was more like doing meditation. It is useful and calming, but you may not always have the time. You would recognize it's value, feeling perhaps you should do it more often. Would that even be possible?

Religions can have many orientations. One is the viewpoint that you should "not break the law," (and then you will be fine). This is often the religion of Satan and her temptations. Another viewpoint is that you should become better. You only achieve salvation if you are better, show deep copmpassion or demonstrate Christ consciousness.

You can believe in the existence (or not) of Sasquatch and you can believe in the existence of God (or not). But this is not the same use of the word "belief".

We cannot cover our existing selves fully with the blanket of religion, but we are never encouraged to notice that.

I am still walking around surrounded by little bits of divinity, as I now call people. (When I remember to.) the real change would be to make this permanent. But this brings up the question: Do I want to disengage from being able to disengage from this?

What if bible is not literally true? Could it still be the word of God? Well, you are not perfect. Are you not the child of God?

      There Is That Dream

There is this dream I carry
      that something wonderful will happen,
      must happen . . .
that time will open itself up
      that doors will open,
      that the mountain will open,
that streams will spring forth . . .
that the dream will open itself up,
      and that i,
      early one morning,
      will sail into a harbor
      i knew nothing about.

Idea for the religion class: Proofs of god from non-Christian religions.

Do I have to go out every day and the world be all magical? Sometimes I just like the world to suck.

Do I have to not worry to be happy? Can I worry and be happy?

People are afraid they can't interest other people. We need to meet them half-way — with compassion and non-judging.

I used to think old people were kind because they were old, and had to be. But it's not that they're old, they're old enough to get it.

The cosmological argument that all creation testifies to the existence of a god, is a way of organizing one's whole world around god.

I have been practicing a silent Amaste. I loook at people and think: the divine in me recognizes the divine in you. I recognize the divine in them, the self beyond judgments, achievemnents and failures. This let's me look at them: whther they be old, pretty, fat or powerful.

I have to have the right energy in order to be kind.

Wednesday I had an experience unlike any other. I was lying in bed next to Twiantya, desultorily looking at Buddhist videos on YouTube, and I began to fade. I woke up in a vision of lightness. And "vision" isn't the right word. It felt light and magical. It is hard to say what it was but it was symmetric and repetitive, contemporary and real. I felt blessed and refreshed. I did not awaken except to mumble out to Twiantia that I was in bliss. (I touched her to share this with her (if I could...)

There was no god. This was god. Or at least closer to god.

The feeling has stayed with me. It is unlike anything I have experienced. There were no drugs, no sickness, no altered states to explain it away. There was just this vision/feeling.

We follow the herd in groupthink, loyalty, religion, status, normality, etc. (It's the things we are describing with the simple concepts that are complex.)

Philosophy asks the questions that cannot be answered.

The Internet is largely an Idternet

      It's always today somewhere.

Religion lets us take the eternal view, the perpendicular exit, ignoring the present and our thoughts about it.

Being kind is not only a moral commitment, but a skill, if not a talent.

How can we think about religion when we cannot even talk about it?

I see a student bent over under the weight of the books in his backpack. This is so point challenged. He could have those exact books on my computer and they would weigh nothing. The mind too does not get heavier with thoughts.

Perhaps™: Big corporations often only pretend to compete.

Corporations are not democratic. They are more like dictatorships, or feudal allegiances.

Looking around™: We live more and more in a virtual word: nerf life. Sports are replaced by safe sports. Adventure by travel, or rides. Our bodies, the existential being, is taken out of it.

More people are shot in Spokane than are killed in automobile accidents. So why don't they make people wear bulletproof vests like they do seatbelts?

Television without words is so non-educational.

But what made me the most sad was that they depiocted a world without surveillance. The Internet itself is a kind of surveillance.

On the plane, some read; others sleep. Both work.

Sudoku is a way of dealing with systems where one part affects all the others. It is a kind of solitaire chess.

Without a book or the computer, I hang, unmediated. I am like a man surviving in the vacuum of space. (I crave music)

No. I cannot die in a plane crash. I feel so valuable, much like all these other people, the ones I call "everybody."

Airports are a great way to people-watch, a huge cross-section of those who have enough money to fly. People from the city, people from the country. Selves that usually keep themselves separated. Hang in different crowd. The challenged who are up to fighting way around the country. No one wants to be here, except as part of a transition. A place to simians (and siwomians)

With all these people listening to music on their mp3-players, shouldn't everyone be smiling or toe-tapping? Or at least be moved?

Tom Jones takes on an orchestra – and wins!

I remember the first time I heard the The Django Rineheart part in in Greens Keepers' Low & Sweet. I laughed out loud in delight. I no longer laugh, but the thought still brings me joy.

And do I want to die without hearing the oeuvre of Fletcher Henderson?

In music, at least someone is talking to you.

I like the idea of "being with the family", forgetting it involves being with the family.

My 95 year old mother is like a Energizer rabbit, who keeps going and going in spite of her age. Planning for tomorrow meal, setting out dishes, putting the dishes in the dishwasher, checking everything. Part of me is in awe of her tenacity while part of me wishes she would do something else.

Everything has an indefinite number of handles.

Actually, we live in very common narratives..

      Kids are like stupid adults.

If technology is magic, we are sorcerers' apprentices.

Idea: a cellphone with a rotary dial.

Our large scale projects, (solving the population problem, transitioning away from oil, even keeping our supreme army) is our version of the irrigation projects that engendered civilization. It results in a change of culture, governance and the human condition.

I say nature is beautiful but sometimes when I point my camera, say at a big Ponderosa pine, I cannot find a picture to take.

You should not die before your bodies.

What paper bag do I want over my head?

I look down upon simplifications, even while I want to simplify capitalism, philosophy or simplification itself. What then is the difference between a simple deep thought and a bullshit simplification?

Writing a book is a spiritual event. A place to speak and no one disagrees or interrupts us, a place carry out a chain of reasoning. We are King for a Day.
